WELLAND, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team split their weekend at the Niagara Invitational after defeating the host Knights 3-1 in Sunday's third place game.
 
Durham dominated Niagara in the opening set, winning 25-10, but the remainder of the match was close.
 
The Lords won 25-23 before dropping the third set 25-20. Niagara was hoping to push the match to a fifth and deciding set, but Durham held on for a 26-24 victory.
 
To get to the third-place game, the Lords opened with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) victory over the Georgian Grizzlies.
 
They followed that with a 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 14-25, 15-25) loss to the Mohawk Mountaineers on Saturday to wrap up their opening day of play.
 
On Sunday morning, they were unable to get things going against the Brock Badgers, but won the third set to force the Badgers to win the match in four, 3-1 (21-25, 11-25, 25-15, 18-25).
 
This wraps up the preseason for the Lords, who posted a 4-5 record. They will open conference play on the road in Barrie against the Georgian Grizzlies on October 26. First serve is 6 p.m.
