NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team are onto the consolation side of the 2017 belairdirect OCAA women's basketball championship after opening with a loss against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers out-powered the Lords as they earned a 98-62 victory.
It wasn't all bad for Durham as they led 19-16 after the opening quarter, but the wheels came off in the second as Mohawk maintained their pressure and wore down the Lords to take a ten-point lead into halftime.
Mohawk never let up as their lead gradually grew throughout the remainder of the game – by 27 points after three quarters – en route to their 36-point win.
Three-time CCAA All-Canadian
Lindsay Panchan was named the player of the game for the Lords after finishing with 13 points and nine boards. Graduating senior
Brittany Walters (Oshawa, Ont.) finished with 12 points.
Jakalya Douse led the Mountaineers with a double-double as she finished with 17 points and 12 boards in the victory. Sam Pocrnic wasn't far off with 14 points.
Durham will now face the Niagara Knights on Saturday in the consolation semifinal at 3 p.m. at Seneca College. The game can be watched live here:
