BUFFALO, N.Y. – After splitting their OCAA opener with the Humber Hawks, the Durham College baseball team had a chance to get in some more non-conference games as they travelled to Buffalo to take on the Erie Kats. Erie got the best of Durham picking up the two-game sweep.
With game one tied 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, Erie bats exploded for six runs off of starting pitcher
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.). The Kats would continue their scoring ways adding three more runs in the third.
When it was all said and done, Erie beat Durham 12-4.
Ryan Bothwell (Napanee, Ont.) had a standout game for Durham at the plate going 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI including a home run.
Braden Weir (Whitby, Ont.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
In game two, Durham's offence struggled as Erie shutout the Lords 7-0. Durham was only able to get three hits and while recording four errors.
Head coach
Sam Dempster got a chance to look at his bullpen with five players getting at least one inning of work.
Robert Hauk (Whitby, Ont.) was the lone Lords pitcher not to allow a run as he surrendered just one walk in his inning of work.
The Lords have a big weekend ahead of them with games against the defending national champion Fanshawe Falcons (Saturday) and defending OCAA champion St. Clair Saints (Sunday) at home. First pitch for Saturday is 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium.
