PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College baseball team faced a pair of opponents who could be joining the OCAA league in the near future. Durham would open the day with a 7-2 victory over Lambton followed by a 12-1 win against Fleming. Both games took place at Trent University in Peterborough.
A four-run third inning by the Lords against Lambton broke open a scoreless game. The Lions fought back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning but would be shut down the rest of the day.
Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) got the start and earned the win, pitching five strong innings allowing six hits and both earned runs.
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) allowed one hit in two innings of relief.
Despite seven runs scored,
Ryan Bothwell (Napanee, Ont.) was the lone Lord to have a multi-hit game as he had two doubles.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) and
Spencer Edwards (Vineland, Ont.) had a pair of RBIs while
Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) had a hit, two walks and two runs scored.
Against Fleming, Durham plated seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to break the game open.
Matthew Dobson (Picton, Ont.) was 3-for-4 with three runs, one RBI and a stolen base while
Joshua Chaulk (Oshawa, Ont.) was 2-for-4 with a run score and a RBI. Aiden Ali (Whitby, Ont.) with 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Lords used six pitchers in the game, with
Jake Storry (Port Perry, Ont.) earning the win. He pitched two shutout innings and struck out three batters.
Christopher Carter (Port Perry, Ont.) and
Nathaniel Doring-Abbott (Courtice, Ont.) each pitched clean innings, combining to strike out five Knights.
Durham will resume conference action on Wednesday night against the Seneca Sting in Aurora, Ont. The Lords are 3-3 on the year and are a game and a half ahead of the Sting and George Brown Huskies for fourth place.
