Women’s volleyball has successful preseason trip to New York

POTSDAM, N.Y. – An early preseason trip for the Durham College women's volleyball team was a positive for the program, which is still two weeks from official team tryouts and training camp.

Invited to compete at SUNY Potsdam's for their preseason tune-up, the Lords won three of four matches with their only loss being a 2-1 result in a shortened match on Friday.

Opening against the Potsdam Bears, Durham defeated host 3-1. They lost the opening set, but rebounded to win three straight.

Similarly, against St. Lawrence University, the Lords started slow, but won the third set 25-15 before the match ended early.

On Saturday, to wrap up two days of matches, Durham defeated the Clarkson Golden Knights and Canton Kangaroos by similar 3-1 scores.

"It was a great few days of volleyball for our program," said head coach Tony Clarke. "We rolled our lineups to try a variety of combinations and it was extremely positive. Everyone responded well and we've already started to have great team cohesion as we start to build through the preseason towards conference play."

Clarke also liked what he saw in their final match of the day. After splitting opening sets, the Lords battled against the Kangaroos to win 29-27 and 27-25 in the third and fourth sets to take their third match over the two days.

Now Durham will have time off as they prepare for training camp and their next preseason matches on Sept. 15 in Brampton against the Sheridan Bruins and Trent Excalibur.
  Overall Record: 3-0
Conference Record: 0-0

Next match: Saturday, Sept. 15 @ Sheridan Bruins (12 p.m. – Oakville, Ont.)
