Lords preseason continues against top competition

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Traveling to challenge the Sheridan Bruins and Western Mustangs in preseason action, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team picked up a Saturday afternoon split in Oakville, Ont.

The Lords opened the afternoon against the host Bruins, earning a four set victory over the fourth place finishers in the OCAA a year ago. Set scores in the exhibition contest were 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12.

Following their opening matchup, Durham challenged the 2017 OUA bronze medalist in a pair of three set contests which would see the teams play out all six sets regardless of outcomes. The Lords were in tough against the perennial OUA powerhouse Mustangs, but displayed strong resolve, keeping set scores tight in five of the six sets. Set scores in the first match were 19-25, 18-25, 19-25 and in the second match were 22-25, 18-25, 12-25.

"It was great to get these reps today against some of the best competition the province has to offer," said Lords head coach Tony Clarke. "We were able to roll our lineups and get everybody some time on the court and I was really happy to see some great moments from our girls."

Next on the Lords preseason schedule is a trip to Sainte-Therese, Que. where they will take part in the Montreal Cup from Sept. 28-30.
