Men’s baseball opens year with preseason trip to New York

BATAVIA, N.Y. – The Durham College men's baseball team has their 2018 campaign underway, but are still looking for their first win after a three-day trip to New York.
 
On Friday, at the historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, the Lords opened with a 5-5 tie against the Genesee Cougars. This day also included a team bonding tour of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
 
Saturday resulted in 9-4 and 7-3 losses to the Erie Kats and Brock Badgers respectively. The weekend wrapped up with a doubleheader against the Cougars in Batavia. Genesee won the first game 12-5, followed up edging the Lords 1-0 in a pitcher's duel.
 
Durham opens OCAA play on Saturday on the road against the St. Clair Saints in Windsor.

  Game 1 vs. Genesee CC
Griffin Oliver led the team with 2 RBI, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Sam Cawker and Brett Ohare each were .500 – Cawker was 2-for-4, while Ohare was 2-for-3 with a walk.
 
Game 2 vs. Erie CC
• Cawker led the Lords going 3-for-4 with two runs.
• Oliver and Ohare were both 1-for-3 with two RBI each.
 
Game 3 vs. Brock Badgers
Aidan Ali, Easton Currie and Alec Brown each had an RBI for the Lords.
Max Mocon also added a hit for Durham.
 
Game 4 vs. Genesee CC
Riley Gray led Durham with two RBI (1-for-3).
• Ali was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in one run, while scoring once.
 
Game 5 vs. Genesee CC
Johnathon McIntosh, Eric Beharri, Currie and Wowk each had hit for the Lords.
 
Game 1 vs. Genesee CC
Alec Brown had five strikeouts over 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs.
 
Game 2 vs. Erie CC
• Lords had a weekend-high seven strikeouts in the game.
• Mitchell Heinemen started the game, allowing five earned runs on six hits over 2.0 innings.
Eric Beharri pitched 4.0 innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits.
• Alex Hodgeson closed the game, striking out one batter in one inning pitched.
 
Game 3 vs. Brock Badgers
Jason Crouse pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs, while striking out five.
Riley Gray entered in the sixth inning with the game tied 3-3, allowing four earned runs over one inning.
 
Game 4 vs. Genesee CC
Brian Wowk and Alex Hodgeson each pitched three innings.
• They combined for three strikeouts, but gave up nine earned runs on 13 hits and three walks.
 
Game 5 vs. Genesee CC
• Lords gave up weekend-low one run.
Jake Storry struck out three batters and allowed no earned runs on five hits.
