Fanshawe wins back-to-back Adidas Cup titles, host Lords finish second

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Fanshawe Falcons continued their Adidas Cup success on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of the host Durham Lords women's volleyball team.

Heading into the match the Lords had had plenty of success, with their last loss coming to the Brock Badgers in preseason play on Oct. 14 at the Niagara Invitational.

Over the weekend Durham was 2-1 against OCAA opponents, while defeating the two visiting teams from Manitoba with Les Rouge de L'Université de Saint-Boniface and the CMU Blazers.

"I think winning this tournament is always a positive, but the main reason we're here is to learn and prepare for the second half," said head coach Tony Clarke. "We were tested this weekend and having teams from outside the OCAA to compete against gives us an opportunity to see some of the things we need to improve upon before February."

The Falcons were strong from the get-go in the final match, winning the opening set 25-12. From there the Lords bounced back and had a better showing with 25-18 and 25-19 losses.

Up next for Durham is a Friday night match in Belleville against the Loyalist Lancers. Thus far this season they have swept the Lancers in two exhibition matches and one conference meeting, including opening the Adidas Cup with a victory over Loyalist.
