TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham College baseball team earned their place in the National College Baseball Championship gold medal game after picking up two wins on Day 2 of the national event in Toronto on Friday.
The Lords opened their day with an impressive 6-0 quarter-final shutout victory over the John Abbott Islanders from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. The win set up a revenge match with the host Humber Hawks in the semifinal round. Just the week prior the Lords were battling the very same Hawks in the 2019 OCAA championship final, coming up just short of provincial gold, however on this day Durham triumphed in the national semifinal with a 5-2 win to book their ticket in the NCBC gold medal game.
Durham will look to win their second national gold medal in program history when they face off with the Thompson River Wolfpack from Kamloops, B.C. on Saturday evening in Toronto. First pitch for the gold medal game is set for 4 p.m. with the game being streamed on
OCAA LIVE.
GAME 1
• The victory was never in doubt as the Lords scored runs in three of the first four innings, led by the top of the order for DC in
Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) and
Griffin Oliver (Oshawa, Ont.). D'Amico finished with two RBI going 2-for-3, while Oliver went 2-for-4 with two RBI as well.
GAME 2
• Lords veteran
Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) drove in an impressive three RBI in the semifinal victory, finishing the evening game 1-for-4.
• Oliver conintued his outstanding Day 2 at the national championship crossing the plate twice, while also adding an RBI on a 1-for-2 and two walk outing.
• 2019 OCAA rookie of the year Sam Lebel went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead the Hawks offence in the loss.
GAME 1

Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) earned the complete game shutout win, finishing with six strikeouts while giving up only three hits and two walks to the Islanders.
GAME 2
• 2019 OCAA pitcher of the year
Jason Crouse (Oshawa, Ont.) defeated the Hawks in a complete seven inning effort, striking out eight, while allowing just two earned runs on six hits.
• 2019 OCAA championship MVP Steven Hough was handed the loss after allowing five earned runs to the Lords through just three innings pitched.
