NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Durham College men's indoor soccer team finished with a 1-2-1 (W-L-T) record at the OCAA regional tournament on Wednesday at Seneca College.
Durham 0 Georgian 2
The Lords faced stiff competition throughout the entirety of the day, opening the regional tournament with a 2-0 loss versus the Georgian Grizzlies. Despite not finding the back of the net in their tournament opener, Durham received strong defensive performances from third-year veteran
Colin Reilly (Whitby, Ont.) and indoor season addition
Trey Thompson (Ajax, Ont.). Georgian's goals were scored by Joey Krempa and Philip Shin.
Durham 2 St. Lawrence 0
DC rebounded in their second contest of the day, applying consistent offensive pressure enroute to a 2-0 victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings. Second-year speedster
Nate Paine (Whitby, Ont.) raced down the right wing before sending a cross off a Vikings defender to score the opening goal of the match in the first half.
Kevin Thibodeau (Pickering, Ont.) notched the Lords second goal after finishing off a perfectly timed pass from second-year striker
Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.). Goalkeeper
Dylan Toland (Ajax, Ont.) earned the clean sheet for DC.
Durham 1 Conestoga 2
In their third match of the day the Lords faced off with a speedy Conestoga Condors indoor squad, battling to a tightly contested 2-1 loss. Durham opened the scoring as Paine picked up his second goal of the day, outracing the Condors defence to a long pass before depositing the ball past the Conestoga keeper. The Lords were able to muster up only a few more offensive chances after the first half as the Condors shored up their defence and began to dominate possession. Conestoga's goals were scored by Reza Ullah and Malachi Ramsay.
Durham 3 Fanshawe 3
Durham rounded out their day in what turned out to be the most exciting match of the men's tournament, drawing 3-3 with the Fanshawe Falcons. The Falcons were hot out of the gates jumping out to a two goal lead heading into the half. Adjusting their game plan during the break, the Lords quickly drew even in the second half with goals from
J'Mar Williams (Brampton, Ont.) and Thibodeau. Continuing to mount their attack against Fanshawe, it was
Aidan Donaldson (Scarborough, Ont.) who tipped in a Durham corner to put the Lords ahead by one heading into the closing minutes. However, with just seconds left in the contest the Falcons converted a full field sequence to pick up the draw. Fanshawe's goals were scored by Ahmad Al Rajie, Ryan Baker, and Alberto Barquin-Montepeque.
Durham failed to qualify for the OCAA championship finishing outside the top two at the regional event.
