PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Traveling south of the border for two exhibition matches, the Durham College women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to the Ursuline Arrows in Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
A slow start for the Lords allowed Ursuline to rally off four consecutive goals within the first 12 minutes of play.
Finding their pace following the early onslaught, Durham connected on a set piece in the 82nd minute to score their lone goal of the match. Taking advantage of a free kick deep in Arrow territory, fifth-year midfielder
MacKenzie Barry (Ajax, Ont.) connected with fellow midfielder
Morgan Blaind (Oshawa, Ont.), sending a low cross into the box which the second-year player finished.
Ursuline rounded out scoring in the match with a final tally in the 84th minute.
"All credit to Ursuline, they are a good team, but the amount we allowed them to have possession early and the mistakes we made in the first 15 minutes was the reason for the quick jump on the score," said Lords head coach
Alex Bianchi. "There were positives, once we weathered the storm, we did better putting pressure on them and connecting passes. I thought
Sydney Zeller (Peterborough, Ont.) had a really good game for us, along with newcomers Shannon Brown (Whitby, Ont.) and Jessica Ferreira (Ajax, Ont.) who were good in the back in the second half."
Durham will look to rebound quickly as they head to Erie, Pennsylvania where they will face off with the Edinboro Fighting Scots tomorrow afternoon to round out their two-game American preseason trip. The Lords open the regular season at home on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they welcome the Seneca Sting to Vaso's Field
Overall Record: 0-2-0 (W-L-D)
