OSHAWA, Ont. – Jessica Joensen (Newcastle, Ont.) of the women's volleyball team and
Ty Jacob (Courtice, Ont.) of the men's rugby team were named the 2019-20 athletes of the year.
Joensen had an outstanding season with the women's volleyball team. The fourth-year outside hitter was named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA east player of the year, and an OCAA east first team all-star. Joensen finished the regular season second in team scoring with 151 total points from 115 kills, 28 service aces, and eight blocks. The team captain also led the team with 104 digs, bringing her career total to 423, which marks a new program-high. In addition, she was also received OCAA all-academic honours and was named a CCAA academic All-Canadian.

Jacob was a powerhouse for the men's rugby team in the fall. The 6'2 centre was honoured as both the OCAA east and overall scoring champion and an OCAA east all-star. Jacob led the entire conference with an exceptional 78 total points this season, scoring a team-high seven tries, while adding 20 converts and one penalty kick. A season highlight included being named an OCAA star of the week after scoring two tries and four converts in a 28-10 road victory over St. Lawrence.

Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) of the women's basketball team and
Joshua Lee (Ajax, Ont.) of the men's soccer team were named freshmen athletes of the year.
Oliver had a sensational rookie year with the women's basketball team. After finishing first in the province in rebounds and third in points per game, she was named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA east player of the year, OCAA east and overall rookie of the year, an OCAA east first team all-star, and an OCAA east all-rookie. The 5'10 forward averaged 19.4 points per game, 12.4 rebounds per game, and recorded 12 double-doubles this season.
Lee was a standout in his rookie campaign with the green and gold. Scoring a team-high eight goals in the regular season, he was named OCAA east rookie of the year and an OCAA first team all-star. The Ajax native then went on to help the Lords capture gold at the CCAA national championship, being named the CCAA championship MVP and a CCAA championship all-star.

Alanna Stanoev (Whitby, Ont.) of the women's softball team and
Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) of the men's volleyball team were the recipients of the Bonnie Ginter-Brown overall leadership awards, recognizing a male and female student-athlete who have gone above-and-beyond in a leadership role within their team and the greater community.
The men's soccer team was named the team of the year after winning gold at the CCAA national championship on home turf in Oshawa. Capturing their first CCAA national banner in program history during the fall of 2019, the team also received numerous honours including four players selected as OCAA all-stars, two major provincial award winners, five CCAA championship all-stars, and the national championship MVP.
The men's rugby team won this year's #DC4DC award, recognizing a combination of team success, academics, strength and conditioning, community involvement and support for fellow Durham Lord teams.
