Box Score TORONTO, ON - Matching up with the Humber Hawks in the first round of the playoffs, the Durham College women's soccer team battled to the end, but fell short in a 1-1 penalty kick loss. The defeat ends their 2021 OCAA campaign.
Looking to play a defensive counter-attacking game, the Lords were able to set themselves in good position with a late first half goal off the foot of second-year midfield
Jessica Ferreira (Ajax, ON).
Heading into the halftime break up by one, the game plan became putting a stop to a Humber attack which led the province in goals scored this season. This 1-0 lead lasted until the 70th minute of the match, when the consistent pressure from the Hawks finally broke through as Hayley Lewis slipped the tying goal past Lords keeper
Nikki Bradshaw (Newtonville, ON). Despite conceding the second half goal, Bradshaw was sensational in net for the Lords, making 14 total saves through 120 minutes played.
With the game even 1-1 through regular time, and then through an additional 30 minutes of extra time, the pair of teams headed to penalty kicks as a winner was needed in the playoff matchup. Providing themselves with a chance to knock off the No. 2 seed from the OCAA Central division, it just wasn't meant to be for the Lords as the Hawks came out on top in the penalty kick showdown.
A solid 2021 campaign, the Lords finished the regular season at 3-2-1, claiming the third seed in a tightly contested OCAA East division this season. With just two graduating seniors DC will look to improve for 2022 with more experience gained and a full offseason together.
Overall Record: 3-4-2 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 3-2-1
