OSHAWA, ON - Welcoming the Loyalist Lancers to the CRWC on Wednesday evening, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team picked up a quick 3-0 victory. Set scores in the match were 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.
As the match went on, the Lords found their form culminating in an attack percentage of over 40 percent in the final set. Pacing the teams offense was veteran outside hitter
Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) who finished with a team-high 15 points from 12 kills, two blocks, and one service ace. Impressive in the middle as well,
Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) tallied eight kills and one block for the Lords, while nine other Lords players recorded a point in the three set victory.
First-year setters
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) and
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) once again split time, with Young coming on strong towards the end of the match to finish the night with 21 total assists. Meanwhile, on the defensive end of the court Stewart was a wall for DC, registering a team-high nine digs in addition to her strong offensive output.
Next on the preseason calender for the women's team is the annual Adidas Cup hosted by Durham College at the CRWC from Nov. 26-27. The Lords will open the tournament on Friday with a match versus the George Brown Huskies beginning at 1 p.m.
