Lords win second consecutive Adidas Cup

OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College women's volleyball team won their second straight Adidas Cup, hosting OCAA competitors at the CRWC for the annual exhibition tournament over the past two days.

Durham opened the second day of the tournament with a three set sweep of the La Cité Coyotes, winning with set scores of 25-21, 25-12, 25-23. The win propelled the Lords into the Adidas Cup final later in the afternoon. Leading the way in the early morning win was first-year middle Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) who recorded a team-high 11 points from seven kills, one service ace, and three blocks. Splitting time guiding the offense, rookie setters Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) and Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) combined for 14 assists in the quick three set contest, while versatile athlete Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) led the team defensively with five digs.

Facing La Cité again in the Adidas Cup final, DC took it in straight sets to claim their second consecutive tournament title. Set scores in the final were 25-14, 29-27, 25-21. Hildebrandt once again led the way with a team-high 13 points from 10 kills, two service aces, and one block. Both named Adidas Cup tournament all-stars, Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) and Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) delivered in the final as well with 10 and eight points, respectively. Stewart tallied eight points and two blocks, while Anatol notched seven kills and one block. Rounding out the tournament honours, Pedersen was named Adidas Cup MVP after strong play on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court throughout all four matches played.
