OAKVILLE, Ont. - Returning to the pitch for the first time since October 2019, the Durham College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw in preseason action versus the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday afternoon in Oakville.
The sunny afternoon contest saw the Lords strike early as a Samantha McDonald corner in the fourth minute landed on the foot of Jessica Ferreira who delivered to make it a 1-0 Lords lead in the opening minutes. From there the action went back-and-forth before the Bruins were able to find an equalizer in the 61st minute of the second half. Both defences stood strong in the closing 20 minutes as teams looked to work on preparations for the opening of the OCAA regular season in the coming week.
"I was very proud of the girls today as we found ourselves playing with a short bench with six players who were not available to play for us today," mentioned DC women's soccer head coach
Alex Bianchi following the game. "It was good to see what we have right now, there were positive things, and areas we have to work on. We always enjoy our yearly exhibition with Sheridan and appreciate their hospitality."
The Lords women's soccer team will now get ready for the annual clash of campus partners as the annual Campus Cup returns this Wednesday, Sept. 15, pitting both Durham College and Ontario Tech men's and women's soccer teams against each other in exhibition contests. The women will kick off at Vaso's Field at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m. Further details for the Campus Cup event will be released this week.
