Box Score TECUMSEH, ON - The Durham Lords men's baseball team saw their season end at the 2022 OCAA Men's Baseball Championship with a 6-5 loss to the Centennial Colts.
Durham's bats were hot early, scoring before an out was even recorded. Following a single hit by Eddie Borutskie (Oshawa, ON), he stole second and would eventually score the first run of the game on a single hit by OCAA batting champion Tyler Chong (Markham, ON).
With runners on second and third later in the inning, Nick King (Whitby, ON) hit a two RBI single to bring Cruz Lopez (Brooklin, ON) and Chong home for a three-run first inning.
The Lords took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Nearly identical to their first run of the game, Borutskie hit a single and stole second, making his way home on an RBI single hit by Chong.
Centennial began to claw back in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring twice on two separate RBI singles.
The Colts tied the game in the following inning with two runs scored on two sacrifice flies to make it 4-4 through three innings.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, Centennial registered another two-run inning to take a 6-4 lead over the Lords. After hitting a standing double in the top of the 7th and taking third base on a wild pitch, Lopez eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Mahoney (Toronto, ON).
Chong finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and one run. Borutskie and King also had multi-hit games with the former going 2-for-4 with two runs and the latter recording a 2-for-3 with two RBI stat line.
King pitched 4.0 innings on the mound, striking out five of 22 batters faced. Ryan Mattes (Whitby, ON) struck out one batter in 0.2 innings of work and Thomas Aronowicz (Whitby, ON) struck out two batters, giving up no hits in 1.0 innings.
The Lords now head into the offseason with their sights set on preparing for the 2023-24 OCAA season.
