OSHAWA, ON – The Durham College men's baseball team are excited to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher and first baseman Cole Klym (Ottawa, ON).
A product of the Ottawa Knights minor baseball program, Klym will be making his way to the Durham Region from the nation's capital, where he recently graduated from Sir Robert Borden High School.
With the Ottawa Knights, Klym won a regular season and playoff championship with the 14U squad, as well as FJSL 2021 summer season and 2020 Cornwall Fall Tournament championships in the 16U division. He also won a golden glove as best defensive player in Ottawa West Little League.
In 2021, the Ottawa Knights finished 20-2-1 in the regular season. Klym threw 19.1 innings pitches, recording 30 strikeouts, a 1.448 ERA and 1.345 WHIP.
"I love to pitch and love to win as a team," said Klym. "I have enjoyed participating in high school sports including wrestling, but baseball is my passion. I have enjoyed my time with the Ottawa Knights and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to play as a Durham Lord."
Klym is no stranger to the region, pitching in two games as a high school freshman where his school competed in OFSAA, which was hosted in Durham that season.
"Cole comes to Durham College with the potential to be an effective two-way player. He is a strike thrower and competes well on the mound," said Durham Lords men's baseball head coach
Darryl Reid. "Cole knows what it takes to win and will bring that winning attitude to the baseball program."
Beginning his studies at Durham in September, Klym will be studying in the Environmental Technology program.
