OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College women's soccer team opened their pre-season with a 1-0 win over the visiting Sheridan Bruins at Vaso's Field on Saturday afternoon.

The two sides competed in three, 30-minute periods to allow for additional water breaks and teaching opportunities. Sheridan began exhibition play with possession but the opening 10 minutes would see the Lords flying at both ends of the pitch.

Sheridan found their rhythm with a breakaway chance in the 13th minute that was stopped by Lords goalkeeper Nikki Bradshaw (Newtonville, ON). The Bruins nearly split the back line again two minutes later, but Shelby Khan (Oakville, ON) was all over her target to force the ball out.

In the 24th minute, newcomer Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, ON) opened the scoring for the Lords utilizing her speed to beat her opposing defender.

Following the 30th minute break, the Lords switched out goalkeepers to give Dania Justo (Bradford, ON) a taste of the action. She would face an early test in the first minute but Maya South (Barrie, ON) stood tall to redirect the ball. Justo continued to hold confident in net, stopping a hard shot from 20 yards out to keep the Lords up by one.

Adrianna Vanderlaan took over in net following the 60th minute break and would continue the tradition of holding the Bruins scoreless, helping the Lords to a 1-0 victory.

The Lords are back in action on Wednesday, August 24 at home as the Niagara Knights come to town. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
