OSHAWA, ON - The Durham Lords women's soccer team continue to have a perfect pre-season record through two exhibition matches, defeating the visiting Niagara Knights 2-1 at Vaso's Field on Wednesday afternoon.
A total of 80 minutes was played with a modified series of two 40-minute halves.
Following a scoreless first half, Sinéad Kappel (Ajax, ON) opened the scoring to put Durham ahead by one goal in the 45th minute. This would be the first exhibition goal for the incoming freshman in her second appearance.
Niagara responded with a goal of their own in the 70th minute to tie the game at one.
In the 80
th and final minute, Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, ON) was tackled a yard outside of the box to award the hosts a free kick. Kappel fired the ball on target and found the back of the net to take the lead. This led the official to sound their whistle to mark the end of the match during celebrations. That would be Kappel's second goal of the match and of the pre-season.
The Lords are back in action following the Labour Day long weekend in an annual clash with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks with the Campus Cup on the line.
