Box Score 2 OSHAWA, ON – The 2022 OCAA men's baseball season opened at Kinsmen Stadium on Saturday as the Durham Lords split a doubleheader with the Centennial Colts.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Colts scored early with a double that sent two runners home.
Tyler Chong (Markham, ON) scored the first run of the season for the Lords in the bottom of the first, with
Wendel Johnson (Whitby, ON),
Jacob Mahoney (Toronto, ON) and
Nick King (Ottawa, ON) joining him across home plate to record a four-run first inning.
The game would have a couple scoreless innings until
Mason Wright (Courtice, ON) scored on a triple from
Blake Jolicouer (Whitby, ON) to extend the lead. The Lords would add five more runs to defeat the visiting Colts 10-3.
King pitched 6.0 innings, only giving up two earned runs and striking out nine.
Ryan Mattes (Whitby, ON) took the mound for the seventh and final inning, striking out one batter.
In the second game, the Lords trailed 4-0 early on before Johnson and Jolicoeur scored on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit in half. Following two scoreless innings, Centennial added five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-2 lead and the eventual win.
Four different pitchers hit the mound in the second game.
Thomas Aronowicz (Whitby, ON) and
Michael Asselin (Pickering, ON) both struck out three in 2.0 innings each, while
Cole Klym (Ottawa, ON) only conceded one run in his 2.0 inning appearance.
Aiden Carbray pitched 1.0 inning and struck out one.
The Lords are back in action on Sunday afternoon as the Seneca Sting make the trip to Kinsmen stadium.
