Box Score TORONTO, ON – The Durham Lords stay unbeaten to start the 2022 OCAA regular season, earning a 4-0 win over the George Brown Huskies on the road.
After settling for a scoreless draw in the season opener on Friday, the Lords had no problem finding the back of the net at George Brown.
Jessica Ferreira (Ajax, ON) opened the scoring on a through ball between the defenders from
Kyra Barton (Whitby, ON) a little over half an hour into the match.
Three minutes later, a mishandled ball from the Huskies midfield saw
Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, ON) take the ball up the right side and found Barton in the middle of the box to give Barton her first career OCAA goal.
In the dying seconds before the halftime break, Barton put the ball in the bottom right corner to beat the goalkeeper and give the Lords a three-goal lead heading into halftime.
The goal scoring would spill into the second half as
Erika Bjorgum (Kingman, AB) put her first OCAA goal into the back of the net in the 59
th minute to extend the lead to four. Durham controlled the tempo of the game with a significant advantage with ball possession during the entire game.
"We did a better job today of moving the ball around and finding space to attack them which resulted in creating the opportunities," said Head Coach
Alex Bianchi.
Durham outshot their opponents 20-2 in the match, with 13 shots from the Lords making it on target and none contesting
Nikki Bradshaw (Newtonville, ON).
Olivia Checchia (Bowmanville, ON) led all players in shots on goal with four, while Ferreira and Bjorgum were not far behind with three each.
The Lords return home to host the Cambrian Golden Shield at Vaso's Field on Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 PM.
