Box Score 2 LONDON, ON – Durham men's baseball leave London with a win and a loss against the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Chong (Markham, ON) batted in a run to open the scoring in the top of the first, with
Eddie Borutskie (Oshawa, ON) scoring his first run of the game. He would also score the second run of the game in the top of the third, with Chong adding another run to give the Lords a 3-1 lead through three innings.
Coming off of a scoreless fourth inning, the Lords added five runs to the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Borutskie crossed home plate for the third time in the afternoon, before
Mason Wright (Courtice, ON) batted in two runs with a single, scoring
Ryan Mattes (Whitby, ON) and
Nick King (Whitby, ON).
Ishaan Persaud (Pickering, ON) was walked with the bases loaded, scoring
Cam Lugtenburg (Bowmanville, ON) and then Wright made his way home to take an 8-1 lead.
Both sides traded off a single run each but the Lords would leave the first game of the doubleheader with a 9-2 win.
Chong finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while Lugtenburg and King both batted 2-for-3.
King was on the mound through the first 6.0 innings, striking out five batters and conceding only two runs.
Ben Spunde (Elmira, ON) took over the mound for the seventh and final inning, facing only three batters.
Borutskie picked up where he left off in the second half of the doubleheader, tapping home plate in the top of the first inning along with Chong to give the Lords a 2-0 lead. Fanshawe was able in the bottom of the second, posting two runs to tie the game.
With the Lords not having scored a run since the first inning, the Falcons made the visitors pay for it in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run inning to take a 6-2 lead. Fanshawe added two more runs in the sixth and would eventually come away with an 8-2 victory of the Lords.
Jackson Painter (Whitby, ON) pitched 4.1 innings, striking out one batter. Spunde faced two batters and
Carter Quinney (Pickering, ON) pitched the final inning.
Chong, King, Mattes and Persaud recorded hits in the outing for Durham.
With Sunday's exhibition game against the EBLO All-Stars cancelled, the Lords are back in action a week from today on Saturday, September 24 as the St. Clair Saints make a visit to Kinsmen Stadium. The games in the doubleheader are scheduled for 4:00 and 6:00 PM.
