OSHAWA, Ont. - Josiah Morgan is the first player to sign with the Durham College men's soccer team ahead of the 2025 season, beginning in September.
"I chose Durham College because of the positive, student-focused atmosphere," said the Woodbridge talent. "When I came for a campus visit, I instantly saw myself being a student here."
A 5-foot-10 defender who can play left back and right back, Morgan has played for several clubs in the Greater Toronto Area, including Brampton Soccer Club, Ginga Soccer Academy, Barrie Soccer Club, and Vaughan Soccer Club.
He's been part of many tournaments and combines, earning 'Player of the Match' status at the FTF Canada Bundesliga Youth ID Camp and participating in the FutureStar Sports Youth Combine.
Morgan has competed a large number of elite competitions, including the Challenge Brossard Cup, Top Rated Showcase, Empire Cup & College Showcase, Ontario Cup, and the VSC x FTF Canada Spring Showdown, among others.
"We're excited to welcome Josiah to the program," said head coach Dave Ashfield. "He's a versatile defender with great pace, awareness and work ethic who will bring a calm presence and competitive edge that fits perfectly with the culture we're building here at Durham."
His career highlights include scoring the game-winning goal in the Challenge Brossard Cup and the Top Rated Showcase, along with reaching the semifinals in the Ontario Cup and VSC x FTF Canada Spring Showdown.
Morgan has been trained by Gary Lewis, the academy head coach at Manchester United and Oldham Athletic A.F.C., and Karl Brown, an academy coach at Bolton Wanderers and Oldham in England.
"Connecting with Coach Dave Ashfield for the soccer side of things was the deciding factor for me," Morgan said. "He welcomed me and made me feel at home."
Soon to graduate from Father Bressani Catholic High School, Morgan will study in the Sport Management program at DC while competing with the varsity men's soccer team.
