VAUGHAN, Ont. – Sarah Balzia (Brooklin, Ont.) had a both goals in Durham College's 2-0 victory over the Sault Cougars on Wednesday, the Lords lone victory at the OCAA indoor soccer regional tournament.
Balzia opened the scoring in the first half, but didn't score the insurance marker until the second half of the match. Jessica Prytulka (Kingston, Ont.) earned the clean sheet in goal for Durham.
Earlier in the day the Lords opened with a 1-0 loss to the Conestoga Condors. Unfortunately for Durham they didn't get the bounces to go their way and ran into a hot goalkeeper who didn't make any errors on multiple quality chances by Durham.
Conestoga capitalized with six minutes to go in the match to earn their one-goal victory.
The Lords second match was against the highly touted Seneca Sting. Durham pressed early with numerous scoring chances and corner kick opportunities in the opening minutes, but Seneca rebounded to score in the third minute of the match. At halftime the Sting led 2-0. The Sting added two more in the second half to defeat Durham 4-0.
Prytulka played all three matches in goal for the Lords.
With their result at the regional tournament, Durham didn't qualify for the provincial championship March 18-19 at Redeemer.
