NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's indoor soccer team registered a 2-2-0 (W-L-T) record at the OCAA regional tournament on Wednesday at Seneca College.
Durham 4 Laurier-Brantford 0
DC started the day on fire as they defeated Brantford-Laurier in convincing fashion, 4-0. Picking up a hat-trick in the tournament opener,
Mya Beverley (Oshawa, Ont.) displayed outstanding finish playing in tandem at the front of the pitch with whirlwind striker
Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont.). Second-year midfielder
Madison Haigh (Bowmanville, Ont.) rounded the Lords scoring in the impressive opening match. Goalkeepers
Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) and
Kerrington Steed (Courtice, Ont.) each played a half in the clean sheet win.
Durham 6 St. Lawrence 0
The Lords offence continued to heat up in another dominant win, dropping the St. Lawrence Vikings 6-0. Five different Durham players recorded a goal; Beverley added another two goals in her strong overall tournament performance, while Lapointe,
Bailey Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.),
Erin Dicaire (Oshawa, Ont.), and
Morgan Blaind (Oshawa, Ont.) each scored single markers. King and Steed once again split time in net for the Lords, combining for the clean sheet.
Durham 1 Mohawk 2
After scoring 10 goals through the first two matches of the day, Durham's offence ran into some trouble with the stout back line of the Mohawk Mountaineers, dropping a 2-1 decision. Dicaire scored the lone goal for the Lords in the opening half, chipping in a well placed through ball from Beverley. Both of Mohawk's goals were scored by Caitlin Laughlin.Â
Durham 2 Fanshawe 4
A tale of two halves to the day for DC, the Lords struggled to find their footing against the ball dominant Fanshawe Falcons, falling 4-2 in the final contest of the day. After quickly falling behind the Lords would not find their offence until the second half when Haigh made a strong cut to the middle of the field, putting the foot on her right foot she blasted the ball past the Falcons keeper. Haigh then scored her second goal of the game on an identical move, but it would not be enough to climb back into the final match of the tournament for DC. Fanshawe's goals were scored by Allison Pike, Nicole Nielsen, Robyn Scott, Kayla McQueen.
Durham failed to qualify for the OCAA championship finishing outside the top two at the regional event.
