NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team is set to make their return to the belairdirect OCAA women's basketball championship hosted by Seneca College in North York, Ont. from March 2-4.
The Lords will take on the Mohawk Mountaineers of Hamilton in their quarter-final match in the primetime slot at 8 p.m.
This year will be the first time since 2014 the Lords will play in the provincial championship. That season, the Lords were eliminated with losses to Mohawk and Sheridan.
Mohawk finished in second place in the OCAA west region with a 14-4 record and won six straight games in February to close out the regular season. This will be the first time this season that the two sides square off.
Sam Pocrnic leads the Mountaineers' offence averaging 16.7 points per game to put her in the top ten in league scoring. Jasmina Kucic adds secondary scoring for Mohawk averaging 10.3 points per game but it is her presence on the boards where she makes her biggest impact. With 169 rebounds, she sits is sixth in the province.
Durham is led by
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.), who will be making her first appearance at the championship in her three-year career. The three-time OCAA scoring champion led the league in scoring averaging 25.8 points per game and hauled in 131 defensive rebounds.
