Lords have strong showing at regional qualifier

ANCASTER, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer team narrowly missed qualifying for the OCAA indoor soccer championship after losing a pair of one-goal games on Friday at Redeemer University College.

Head coach Alex Bianchi was happy with the effort put forth by the team in all three games.

"Seeing how hard the team competed today was extremely positive," said Bianchi. "We feel great about the program moving forward into the fall outdoor season as we now focus on training for September and adding players to what we believe to be a strong core."

Durham opened the regional qualifier with a convincing 4-1 victory over the St. Lawrence Schooners (Brockville).

The Lords then followed that with a 2-1 loss to the host Redeemer Royals. At halftime the teams were knotted 1-1, but in stoppage time the Royals broke the deadlock to earn the victory.

Their final match of the day was a rematch of Durham's OCAA championship qualifying game in October against the Humber Hawks, which the Lords lost 2-0.

Humber edged Durham again, winning the match 1-0. With their victory the Royals and Hawks have advanced to the OCAA indoor soccer championship being hosted March 23-25 by Redeemer in Ancaster.
