1991-1993 DURHAM COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOFTBALL TEAMS
Inducted November 18, 2022

The 1991-92 & 1992-93 Durham College women’s softball teams, led by head coach Jim Nemish, won back-to-back OCAA Championship titles and compiled a 23-1 conference record in those two seasons.  In the fall of 1991 the Durham Lords defeated Conestoga 13-8 before posting a 7-3 victory over Seneca College in the Gold Medal Final. Diane Hornsby was named the Gold medal game MVP. Jill Drinkwater was named Championship Top Pitcher and Karen Rose was named Championship MVP.

A regular season that saw the Lords complete a perfect 10-0 record was helped by OCAA League All-Stars Kim Blakely and Rose. Blakely also led the entire OCAA in batting that year with a .538 batting average. While Jill Drinkwater was named OCAA League Top Pitcher. Drinkwater and Traci Hanc were both 5-0 on the season as pitchers.

The very talented Lords softball team from 1991-92 saw a number of players return the following year. Combined with a strong recruiting class the Lords would finish atop the OCAA regular season standings again and capture the OCAA Championship for the second straight year, beating Seneca 9-5 in the Gold Medal game. Drinkwater and Annette MacLeod were awesome on the mound while Diane Hornsby drove in the game winning run in the final. The Final game MVP was Karen Rose while MacLeod was named the Championship Top Pitcher and Lisa McLeod was named Championship Tournament MVP.

The Lords dominating regular season (9-1) saw Karen Rose and Angela Berwick named League All-Stars. The Lords under the direction of Coach Nemish and a dedicated coaching staff were the class of the OCAA during these two memorable seasons. The 1991-92 & 1992-93 Durham College women’s softball teams were back to back OCAA Champions and are now honoured in the Durham Sports Hall of Fame.
