David Stewart, a native of Scotland, became the Athletic Director at Durham College in 1970 and over a twenty-six year period was a guiding force in DC Athletics and OCAA from the time he arrived David's long and successful career had many memorable highlights, including the school's first ever Championship which came in Men's Curling in 1972; the official opening of the Athletic Centre in 1977; and the hosting of the CCAA National Men's and Women's Volleyball Championships in 1990.

Besides his accomplishments at Durham, which also included coaching several teams, he was also an outstanding all-star athlete in a number of sports - football, basketball and fastball. In 1993 David was inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame in the team category with the 1974 Men's Fastball National Champion Oshawa Tony's.

Durham College and its students over the years have benefited from Dave's vision and determination. His total dedication and enthusiasm was evident throughout the years and through his hard work Durham has forged a strong reputation of excellence in College Athletics, not only in Ontario, but across Canada.
